WAZ multimedia project with PAPER.plus App wins Local NRW Award 2018

PAPER.plus brings 70-year-old Bochum city events to life / Jury pays tribute to multimedia approach

Berlin / Bochum. The Bochum editors of the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) won the “Innovative Format in Local” category of the Local NRW Award with their project “70 Years WAZ – 70 Years Bochum”. An important contribution to this success was the PAPER.plus app from ProcSet Media Solutions GmbH, with which WAZ readers can bring printed photos to life.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the WAZ, the editors developed the concept of a multimedia journey through time. From 1948, the founding year of the largest regional newspaper in Germany, to today, readers can review moments and stories. the centerpiece is a multimedia timeline at https://bochum70.waz.de/. Among other things, videos, picture galleries, articles about contemporary witnesses and digitized newspaper pages are available to readers. A special feature is that the WAZ reader can use the PAPER.plus app to turn printed pictures into short videos. He simply scans the marked images with PAPER.plus and then sees the additional digital content directly on the screen of his smartphone using the integrated Augmented Reality technology.

Stefan Rost, Managing Director of ProcSet GmbH, says: “We are of course very pleased that WAZ has received this award. The cross-media project impressively shows how publishers can expand their printed publications with digital content and thus offer their readers added value. ”
